SPACE JAM

 One day, while I was sitting on the Brown Line, a man walked on the train and he wore a shirt and on that shirt there was a message. The message said F*CK LBJ and I thought: "Here’s a gentleman who does not like Lyndon Baines Johnson, the president from the 60s. The guy behind all sorts of things including a healthy chunk of the space race." However, I later learned that there’s another LBJ. Those initials can stand for LeBron James, the basketball-teer, from Cleveland, Ohio. And so I though, “Hey— Basketball? The Space Race? Those seem like two subjects that are RIPE FOR COMBINATION.” Unfortunately, there’s already a masterwork that combines those as good as one can. It’s a movie and the movie is called “Space Jam”. So instead of writing a song about that T-shirt, I decided to write a song about the movie Space Jam and it goes a little something like this. Dance like your Dad In the style of your Dad However your dad would dance, YOU DANCE LIKE THAT DAD I once read that Neil Armstrong made a mistake when he got off Eagle 1, the space thing that landed on the moon. (Lunar module? I think you call it a lunar module.) He was supposed to say: “That’s one small step for A man, but one giant leap for mankind”. He forgot the “A”. It’s important to remember the “A” in a lot of situ-circumstances. 
Situations and circumstances. “Situ-stances and circum-stations.”

 It’s important to remember the A if you’re an oboe tuning up an orchestra — they play an A. That’s how you tune. It’s important to remember the A if you’re spelling a word that has “A” in it. And it’s-a very important to “mamember” spell if you’re spelling… “Astronaut”. 
(That’s “Astronaut” with a capital A.) Now, I once knew an astronaut. His name was Bill Cosmonaut-Tologist. It was an ironic last name and that was not lost on him. And he had a mission, he was going on — not to Planet X, no no no no— but Planet A. “Aaaye!” Like Fonzie. ‘Cause there was a mysterious transmission originating from that planet. So he went out to Jupiter. And he went from Jupiter to Neptune. And from Neptune, it’s just around the corner and couple blocks down till you get to Planet A, home of the mysterious signal from space. And when he landed, he was shocked—shocked and appalled! — to find a monolith. And propped up against that monolith was yet another monolith and there was a smaller, third monolith to make the letter A there. It was an appropriately named planet. And when he put his hand on that monolith, it sent him a very simple message: 
“It’s a simple message and it comes from the heart, believe in yourself, that’s the place to start,” because the TV show Arthur (that also begins with an A) was being transmitted through this monolith. 

 But if he really brought it in and really leaned in all closey-like and put his ear on that monolith, he heard something more important. Something precious. And that holy scripture defined a new society. A society of peace. And the letter A. And it went something like this:

Cicadas sing outside my window. Are there cicadas where you are? They sing a song to make the sun set. It must be rising where you are. Starlight embers burn the sky. The Hunter stalks his game.
